Is your USB flash drive running a little slow? We’ve got a simple tweak for you that could noticeably improve your write speeds. By default, Windows 7 & Vista optimizes all USB Flash drives for Safe Removal, this disables Write Caching resulting in lower write speeds. Let’s take a look at how to change this setting.

First plug-in your USB flash drive and go to your Device manager by Right Clicking My Computer and click Properties. Then Click Device Manager on the left hand column.

Expand the Disk Drive category, and double-click on your USB Flash Drive.

Click The Policies Tab, and you’ll see the following options:

Optimize for Quick removal (This setting disables write caching on the disk so that you can disconnect this drive without using the Safely Remove Hardware icon.)

Optimize for Performance (This setting enables the write caching on the disk so as to improve disk performance. To disconnect this drive, you should use the Safely Remove Hardware icon so as not to hurt your USB drive.)

Select the “Optimize for Performance” option and Click OK. You should now see a noticable difference when writing to your Flash Drive.
